BOTTLEBAG
DESIGN OF A BOTTLE-TO-GO
TASK & REQUIRED RESULTS
//Create an innovative solution for a drinking bottle to go
//Final result: CAD based rendering & a physical prototype

MARKET RESEARCH
First challenge: the market for drinking bottles is already quite full! My goal was not to design another simple bottle that just looks good. Instead, I wanted to create a new type of application. For inspiration, I had a look at the market for drinking bottles with a new function.

CONCEPT IDEA
When you're "on-the-go", what do you need most of the time?
Your wallet, your phone, keys, something to drink... Isn't it annoying that everything would fit in a small bag except a bottle? The "Bottlebag" is to be based on the modern style of the fanny pack and cell phone chain. With the advantage that a drinking container is also integrated into it.

TREND ANALYSIS
STUDY
To find out if the concept is not just based on my personal preference, I did a small study. This involved asking various questions about user behavior. Which size is favored, which things do people want to take with them, do people take a bottle at all?

MOODBOARD
The element of water should play a primary role in the design! The bottle with the liquid should not be hidden, but present in the foreground.

SHAPE ANALYSIS
It turns out that the most functional and balanced way to integrate a bottle on a bag is not to have a rotating body, but a flat square shape.
FINAL SOLUTION
A modified shape was developed in the CAD programme (Fusion 360). By placing the bag and the bottle module in front of each other instead of on top of each other, space is saved. To loosen up the rigid shape, the pocket is now made of reinforced fabric. This also makes it easier to use.

PROTOTYPE CONSTRUCTION
To test the shape when worn, the bag was made from a foam core that was glued with grey textile. The bottle is sanded out of moulded foam and later painted. Thanks to the design data, it was possible to 3D print the functional rotating mechanism and the reinforcement plate.

LEARNING
The usability test of the prototype construction revealed that it would be better if the product was smaller in height. 2 years after this project, I spent a lot of time working with image-generating AI. This allowed me to quickly test what a further development of the Bottlebag could look like.
